This Antico Casale (old farmhous) has a beautiful setting on the hills of Lucca among olives groves, with a fantastic panorama. The house dates back from the sixteenth century, evidence of the wealth of the silk merchants who had made Lucca famous throughout Europe from 1300 anwards. The property has seen various changes over the years but recently the owners have worked hard to restore it to its original concept using, for example, the local stone La pietra di Matraia. Nature lovers can go for long walks through woods, vineyards and olive groves. Nearby are old churches, historic villas and farms where you can sample local produce and, perhaps, follow the Strade del vino, a route tracking the wine production of the area. The whole property is sun drenched all year round and in summer a cooling breeze keeps temperatures at bay. The 250m altitude allows for this ideal climate and is a perfect retreat from visiting historic Lucca (15 min), Pisa (40min) and Florence (50 min) or set out for a stay at nearby beaches of Versilia. At only a short distance (10 min) are the famous Villas and gardens of Lucca. These Villas are open for visits throughout most of the year. Spectacular views can also be enjoyed from the generously sized salt water pool which is located at the edge of the property. The apartments are elegantly decorated with antiques, fireplaces and the beautiful grey Matraia stone which is quarried in the area. All the apartments enjoy the sunny aspect and the views. The water source is from the aqueduct and is refreshingly delicious to drink at any time. |
